The short answer
Most Triangle homes need their gutters cleaned twice a year: once in spring and once after the leaves fall. If you have pine trees over the house, plan on every three to four months, because pines shed all year.
What happens when gutters clog
Water spills over the front of the gutter instead of going down the downspout. That soaks the soil next to your foundation, which can lead to erosion, cracks and leaks. It also stains siding and rots fascia boards, and in a hard freeze it can form ice dams.
Signs your gutters are full
Water pouring over the edge during rain, plants growing out of the gutter, streaks on the siding below, or a downspout that barely drips. Pine straw lying on the roof is another sign, because it washes straight into the gutters.
